Thunder Pup & Trouble Booster XL
The Thunder Pup and Trouble Booster XL in one box.
What is it?
A twin guitar overdrive pedal that covers low, medium, and high gain tones with tube amp quality.
How does it sound?
The Trouble Booster XL is a germanium overdrive with 2 settings. The Bright mode is inspired by the vintage Greg Fryer and Dallas Rangemaster treble boosters, capturing the classic Vox AC30 Top Boost and Brian May (Queen) sounds. The Normal mode privides a wealth of fatter overdriven tones akin to Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), all packed full of rich harmonics. The silicon Thunder Pup overdrive also has 2 settings; The Bright mode has a fast attack in the lows frequencies, springy mids, and lots of air in the highs like a vintage open back 2x12 combo, such as the Vox AC30 or the Marshall Bluesbreaker. The Normal mode is inspired by the tones of Angus Young (AC/DC) and captures the classic Marshall Plexi 4x12 stack sound. It has a little more gain, a stronger lower-midrange punch, and powerful low frequency response. These contrasting silicon and germanium overdrive sounds can be used independently or simultaneously to create a wealth of entirely new tones.
The Thunder Pup Evil Twin XL does not feature any EQ controls because the tone of the pedal has been meticulously crafted to provide the perfect sweet spot every time. The character of any guitar will always shine through, retaining every nuance of your playing dynamics and reacting flawlessly to your guitar's volume controls. Being able to combine the silicon and germanium overdrives simultaneously provides many unique dirty tones with a huge range of gain options.
If you're looking for very high quality overdriven guitar tones in a highly versatile pedal, this is the tool for the job.
