Given that the King Fuzz uses three transistors, this makes the circuit design closer to a Tonebender than a Big Muff as I undersatand it. But it sounds a lot less “buzzy” than a Tonebender from what I can tell. Is the variation in tone just explained by the type of transistor?
"Don’t be fooled by a simple overview of any given circuit. You’re correct, the King Fuzz and Tonebender MKIII both use 3 transistors, but that’s not enough information to assume they are similar pedals. The ES 335 and Les Paul both have 2 humbuckers, for example, but tonally they can vary enormously. There are so many variables, but actually the model of transistor is less important than the wiring in my opinion. The tone of each transistor can be “tuned”, and multiple transistors can be set to interact with each other in many different ways."
